For years, automakers have equipped vehicle interiors with basic lights like map and dome lamps to assist drivers and passengers at night. These lamps, using conventional low-intensity bulbs, provide pale yellow light sufficient for entering, sitting and collecting belongings before safely exiting the vehicle.
Automakers started equipping their vehicles with colorful lights to improve the interior ambience at night around 20 years ago. These ambient lights are used in instrument panels, door trim panels, headliners, floor consoles, footwells and headliners. Automakers are increasingly using such lighting to reimagine next-generation vehicle interiors.
