Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin — Tesla Giga Berlin — hosts the world’s largest free electric vehicle charging park, according to a report published by Teslarati on April 11. The report cites the finding by the German Automobile Association (ADAC), which said that automaker’s facility in Grünheide houses a sprawling network of 546 charging stations.

It further said that Tesla Giga Berlin became the largest free EV charging park after surpassing an EV charging hub situated in Merklingen, Germany. The latter accommodates a total of 259 EV chargers at the site.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s Giga Berlin, which is located off the A10 near Berlin, hosts 527 EV chargers in the south, 19 EV chargers in the north, and 226 covered EV charging stations. These charging stations are equipped with 11-kW chargers, which deliver up to 71 km of driving range after an hour of charging.

According to the report, Tesla’s covered EV chargers tap into hundreds of solar panels mounted on the roofs of the parking lots.

Citing Tesla, the report mentioned that with the solar panels, the covered EV chargers deliver a maximum power capacity of 1 MW.

Tesla’s solar panel system addresses the concerns around straining local grids during peak demand.

The report said that while most of the EV chargers at Tesla Giga Berlin are free for employees, visitors and passersby, the company charges a fee for charging EVs at its Superchargers installed at the site.

Citing a Tesla spokesperson, the report mentioned that the 19 V4 Tesla Superchargers installed at the site are open to all EV brands at 250 kW for a cost of 53 cents per kilowatt-hour for non-Tesla drivers.
