California state issues ‘drivered deployment permits’ to Cruise and Waymo for autonomous passenger service

Neither company is authorized to operate during heavy fog or heavy rain

California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has issued Drivered Deployment permits to Cruise and Waymo to allow for autonomous vehicle passenger service with a safety driver present in the vehicle, its official statement read on 28 February.
