HELLA has received orders for its 48-V mild hybridization products according to a company press release on 22 April. The company has not named the customer but have stated that it involves “renowned automobile manufacturers,” therefore indicating multiple customers.
Significance: HELLA is a global automotive supplier for power electronics for all drive concepts. The company has been focused on developing products that offer intelligent energy management and greater fuel efficiency. For instance, HELLA launched the world's first 12-V voltage converter that supports the start-stop function in a vehicle, in 2007. Since 2016, the company has been working towards increasing its participation in the field of mild hybridization with 48-V power electronics. The company’s 48-V DC/DC converters allow bidirectional energy transfer between 48-V and 12-V on-board networks as well as recovery of recuperation energy during braking. This energy is made available back to the 12-V network. Several leading German automakers are HELLA’s customers for this product.
"We are already a leading development and technology partner and accompany car manufacturers comprehensively on the path to e-mobility. With our product range, we support all stages of electrification and offer our customers different levels of integration," says Björn Twiehaus, member of the Executive Board and responsible for the Electronics division at HELLA.
