POLICY: Indian government raises basic custom duty on certain auto parts to 15%

Local suppliers’ association ACMA welcomes the Indian government decision claiming the move will encourage local production

The Indian government has proposed to increase basic custom duty on import of certain auto parts including ignition wiring set, safety glass and parts of signaling equipment to 15%, effective on 2 February, the Press Trust of India reported. Earlier these auto parts were attracting basic custom duty in the range of 7.5–10%.
