COVID-19 pandemic: Automotive Supplier Plant Downtime Tracker

Insights
COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe disruptions to automotive supply chain globally. From the beginning of March to the end of May 2020, the developments around the pandemic were very fluid and resulted in low visibility on automotive suppliers’ operations. National governments across the regions had implemented stringent conditions on travel, social interaction, and workplace attendance to arrest the spread of the pandemic. Like their OEM customers, automotive suppliers had to suspend production temporarily at multiple locations in different regions. The Automotive Supply Chain and Technology team at IHS Markit built an ‘Automotive Supplier Plant Downtime Tracker’ to capture the developments at supplier plants across the world. The tracker was last updated on 1 June 2020, when most of the suppliers had announced plans to resume operations.
