EV battery production in Europe enters the fast lane
European automakers will continue to depend on foreign battery manufacturers for sourcing EV batteries in the short term, but the region is expected to emerge as a major cell manufacturing hub by the end of 2025
From being almost non-existent on global battery production map a couple of years back, Europe has emerged as a key location for setting up electric vehicle (EV) battery cell development and manufacturing facility. There has been a strong push from national governments and the European Union (EU) to develop an entire ecosystem related to EV batteries. The initiative from the authorities has got support from automakers, and battery makers, both European and global, which have announced big plans to set up battery manufacturing facilities in various European countries.
