Impact of Autonomous and ADAS technologies on Vehicle weight

Lightweighting enabling innovations and features in the autonomous space

Autonomous Vehicles (AV) are one of the most talked innovations across the automotive industry. Autonomous driving aims at using technology to aid fully automated driving of a vehicle from one place to another, while ensuring that all road hazards and traffic conditions are rightly identified and responded to. Thus, the aim is to partially or fully replace the human control element in driving and focus more on the passenger travel and comfort aspect. Thus, the entire concept and technology in themselves are a big disruptor for the automotive industry and can change the car as we know it totally. The car will transform from being a product to just as a service, and the ride can be more about the travel rather than the driving experience. However, complete autonomy of vehicles is still not allowed and appreciated in the absence of enough driving behavior data as well as the moral decisions involved in times of a traffic incident. Above all, the safety of pedestrian and passengers being paramount, complete autonomy is still in its testing phase at most places and may still take some time to become a reality
