DOT and NHTSA plan to change safety standards to accommodate automated vehicle technologies

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has released a new federal guidance for automated vehicles, according to a press release by the DOT. The guidance called ‘Preparing for the Future of Transportation: Automated Vehicles 3.0’ (AV 3.0), builds on the previous voluntary guidance provided in ‘Automated Driving Systems 2.0: A Vision for Safety,’ released in September 2017.
