New e-motor delivers up to 50% increase in power density and 20% improvement in overall powertrain fuel efficiency

Ricardo has developed a new 48 volt electric motor (e-motor) that delivers up to a 50% increase in power density compared with the current generation e-motors, the UK-based engineering and consulting company said in a press release on 16 July. The company designed and tested the new e-motor and accompanying inverter as part of its contribution to the ‘European Competitiveness in Commercial Hybrid and Automotive Powertrains’ (ECOCHAMPS) project in which Ricardo was one of the 25 collaborating partners.
