Toyota North America has joined OminAir Consortium, an industry operation promoting interoperability and certification of connected vehicles, tolling and intelligent transportation systems (ITS), OmniAir said in a press release last month. The US subsidiary of the Japanese automaker joined OmiAir one month after it announced plans to equip all new vehicles, including from Lexus, in the United States with Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC)-based vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication system, starting 2021. By middle of the next decade, Toyota expects most of its line-up to have V2X communication capability.
