US seating supplier had proposed closing the Ajax plant in the event of failure to reach a mutually acceptable agreement with workers

Unifor-affiliated workers at Lear’s plant in Ajax, Canada have approved a four-year contract, according to Unifor Local 222 website. The new four-year contract, covering 320 workers, was ratified by a vote of 72 per cent. The approval comes after Union and management reached tentative agreement on Friday (4 May) following Lear’s warning that the company would close the Ajax plant in the event of its failure to reach a mutually acceptable agreement with the plant’s workers. Before that, on 1 May, the unionized workers had rejected earlier tentative agreement by 94%.
