Valeo has expanded its research and development (R&D) center in Prague, Czech Republic, Czechinvest reported earlier this month. The French supplier invested CZK124 million (USD6 million) in establishing a new 2300-square-meter building at the R&D center. The expansion will result in 250 new jobs at the center, which will work on comfort and driver-assistance systems.
Significance: Valeo has been present in the Czech market since 1995. The France-based automotive supplier operates three production facilities that manufacture air conditioning systems, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems, interior control panels, and front-end modules. Valeo has been operating its R&D center in Prague since 2002. The 9,000-square-meter center initially operated as an engineering office focusing on mechanical design of air conditioning systems and interior control panels. In 2013, the center began development work of sensors, software, and systems for automated driving and automated parking. Valeo also operates a test track at the center for testing advanced technologies developed there. The center currently has 700 employees, mostly engineers. With the new building at the center and 250 additional engineers, Valeo is expected to push development work in the area of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving.
