The outlook for the automotive HVAC module sector

Technology Trends

The demand for light vehicle HVAC modules is expected to grow by more than 11% between 2016 and 2023, with a preference for HVAC modules with heater and A/C, rather than heater-only systems.

IHS Markit specialists initiated a market assessment of European light vehicle air conditioning (A/C) in 1988. At that time, except for North America and Japan, original equipment air conditioning (OE A/C) fitment was almost non-existent elsewhere globally. In Europe, about 5% of passenger cars contained OE A/C systems, and most of those vehicles were meant for export to North America. Any further real requirement for A/Cs in Europe was met by aftermarket or dealer-fitted kits. Some vehicles had a different body-in-white for heater-only and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) versions in that period, which in today’s age of shared component and platform approach of manufacturing is highly unlikely to be considered by the automotive industry.
