EDITORIAL - Start-ups pushing innovation in automotive industry

Automakers are expected to further increase focus and investments on technology start-ups to secure strong footing in areas such as connectivity, cybersecurity, autonomous driving, electro-mobility and new mobility services

At the CES 2018 earlier this month, little-known Aurora Innovation announced two partnerships with Hyundai and Volkswagen Group to help them bring self-driving cars to market by 2021. The start-up, established in 2016 by Chris Urmson, the former head of Google Self-Driving Car project, in partnership with Sterling Anderson, ex-Tesla Autopilot leader, and Drew Bernel, a key member of Uber’s Advanced Technology Center, is designing and building self-driving technology, and partnering with automakers to integrate, pilot and deploy advanced self-driving platforms into vehicles.
