Advantages of gasoline and diesel engines combined into one

Mazda has successfully developed the first commercial gasoline engine, SKYACTIV-X, which uses a compression ignition with a proprietary combustion technology called Spark-Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI). The engine combines the free-revving characteristics of a gasoline engine with the fuel efficiency, torque, and throttle response of a diesel engine, along with cleaner emissions. Mazda considers this a groundbreaking development under its Jinba-ittai driving experience and a realization of a long-held global automotive industry dream. The company has introduced SKYACTIV-X as a part of its Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 strategy, with a vision to substantially reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
