Interview with Tom Lake, Division Manager of North American Purchasing, Honda

Lake joined Honda in 1986 to support the initial development of its domestic supplier network. Among other assignments, Lake was responsible for establishing sourcing for electrical components, as well as complex systems for braking, safety restraint and engine management for all Honda plants in North America. During his career at NAP, Lake helped expand Honda’s parts purchasing network to approximately 600 domestic suppliers in North America, including 500 in the United States. In 2011, Honda’s OEM parts purchasing totalled USD16 billion in North America. Over the past five years, the company’s North American automotive parts purchasing has exceeded USD85 billion.
