The collaboration merges Swift's Skylark Positioning Service with STMicroelectronics' Teseo VI chipset, aiming to enhance automotive safety and autonomy

Swift Navigation, a company specializing in positioning technology for various industries, has collaborated with STMicroelectronics to offer a comprehensive solution aimed at enhancing automotive safety and autonomy. This collaboration merges Swift's Skylark Precise Positioning Service with STMicroelectronics' groundbreaking Teseo VI global navigation satellite system (GNSS) chipset, creating an integrated system that improves performance and cost-efficiency, and reduces the time-to-market for automotive manufacturers.

This partnership addresses the limitations of autonomous systems that rely on perception sensors, which can fail under adverse weather conditions or on unclear roads. By providing an end-to-end GNSS platform, the solution aims to streamline integration, lower system costs, and expedite deployment for automotive original equipment manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers.

Swift Navigation said its Skylark is the only precise positioning service designed specifically for mass-market adoption, being the first real-time, cloud-based service certified to meet ISO 26262:2018 functional safety standards for road vehicles. This service operates entirely in the cloud, leveraging advanced atmospheric modeling and robust networks to deliver high-integrity, safety-certified positioning at a significantly lower cost compared to traditional solutions.

STMicroelectronics' Teseo VI chipset is a significant advancement in GNSS technology, featuring a quad-frequency, multiconstellation receiver and a dual-core Arm Cortex M7 processor. It is designed to offer enhanced tracking, resistance to jamming and spoofing, and supports highly configurable software for both Automotive Safety Integration Level (ASIL) and non-ASIL applications. Teseo VI is optimized to work with Swift's Starling Positioning Engine, which integrates wheel odometry and inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor data with Skylark's GNSS corrections for improved performance in advanced driver assistance systems Level 2+ and autonomous vehicles.

“STMicroelectronics is an ideal collaborator for Swift as we drive the future of precise positioning for automotive autonomy,” said Holger Ippach, vice president of Product and Marketing at Swift Navigation. “Skylark and Starling, combined with Teseo VI’s advanced capabilities, deliver a robust, highly scalable solution that meets the most demanding industry requirements.”
