The mmWave radar technology is crucial for ADAS and automated driving applications

MCE Holdings Bhd., a provider of automotive electronics and mechatronics solutions, has announced a strategic collaboration through its wholly-owned subsidiary, MCE Ventures Sdn. Bhd., according to a report published by Star Media Group Bhd. on Nov. 5. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nanjing Chuhang Technology Co. Ltd. to exclusively develop, manufacture and market automotive millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar systems from Malaysia for global markets, excluding China.

Established in 2017, Nanjing Chuhang Technology is a leader in mmWave sensing radar technology. The company boasts a pre-research center in Stuttgart, Germany; a research and development headquarters in Nanjing, China; and manufacturing facilities in Shanghai and Anqing, China. Chuhang has forged partnerships with major automotive manufacturers such as Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Leapmotor, Chery, Great Wall, Dongfeng and VinFast, underscoring its capability to produce high-quality, technologically advanced products.

The mmWave radar technology is crucial for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving applications, enabling vehicles to detect and respond to their environment with high precision and reliability. This collaboration aims to leverage the combined strengths of MCE and Chuhang, creating new market opportunities and allowing both companies to diversify their business prospects in automotive electronics and advanced technologies.

Under the terms of the MOU, a new company will be formed to capitalize on this partnership. Chuhang will contribute its technical expertise, including technology transfer, product development support and assistance in setting up a production line in Malaysia. Concurrently, MCE will establish the manufacturing facility at its forthcoming MCE Auto Hub in Serendah, Malaysia, which is expected to be operational by the second half of 2025. MCE will also utilize its extensive network to explore opportunities in both domestic and international markets.

By integrating Chuhang’s mmWave radar technology with MCE’s established expertise in automotive electronics, the partnership aims to deliver comprehensive solutions that meet the market's demand for advanced features in next-generation autonomous vehicles.

Goh Kar Chun, MCE Group's managing director, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "We are excited to embark on this collaboration with Chuhang Technology, which aligns with MCE's focus on high-value, complex electronic and mechatronic components. This venture marks another milestone in our efforts to provide a comprehensive range of technologically sophisticated products that cater to the growing demands of local and overseas markets, while benefiting from Chuhang’s expertise in cutting-edge radar technologies. We are eager to explore future opportunities through this collaboration."

Beyond manufacturing, the MOU also emphasizes R&D activities, focusing on both the software and hardware aspects of mmWave radar systems. MCE, a leading original equipment manufacturer, is engaged in the engineering, design and manufacturing of automotive electronics and mechatronic parts for the Malaysian and regional markets.
