The strategic partnership aims to accelerate SDV development by creating a SOAFEE reference architecture

Tata Technologies and Arm have announced a strategic partnership to develop automotive software and system solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), the company said in a press release on July 18. The partnership will combine Tata Technologies’ automotive domain expertise and software capabilities with Arm Automotive Enhanced (AE) technologies and create a SOAFEE reference architecture stack utilizing the Arm AE portfolio and Arm Compute Subsystems (CSS) for Automotive.

The collaboration aims to integrate a cloud-native development framework, incorporating DevSecOps and virtual platform solutions, thus facilitating a quicker transition from development to market for automakers. This initiative stems from the automotive industry's shift toward connected, autonomous and electric vehicles, requiring advanced software-hardware integration to enhance vehicle functionality, safety and user experience.

“As a strategic partner of Arm, we are developing innovative solutions leveraging their advanced Arm AE technology, and we expect this collaboration to deliver significant time-to-market benefits for the whole automotive industry. We are optimistic about the future of our partnership and the transformative impact it will have on shaping the future of mobility,” said Warren Harris, CEO and managing director of Tata Technologies.

The partnership builds on the momentum from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 and Mobile World Congress 2024, where Tata Technologies and Arm displayed a cloud-native reference software architecture for SDVs operating on Arm systems-on-chips (SoCs). These innovations were further highlighted at Embedded World 2024, featuring the Arm Cortex-A720AE in a virtualized setting, emphasizing a strategy to prioritize safety-critical vehicle software on diverse computing systems.

This collaboration is expected to drive the development and deployment of cloud-native solutions for next-generation vehicles, leveraging Tata Technologies' 25 years of experience in product engineering, digital services and a history of delivering engineering solutions to the automotive industry. The partnership aims to enhance rapid prototyping, testing and deployment of SDV technologies, thereby facilitating the advancement of the automotive sector and accelerating market readiness for original equipment manufacturers.
