Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging Japan G.K., a soon-to-be-established subsidiary fully owned by the Mercedes-Benz Group, has partnered PowerX Inc. in a strategic collaboration to develop a high-power electric vehicle charging network in Japan, PowerX announced Oct. 23.
As part of this partnership, PowerX will lead the rollout and operation of charging stations, expanding to 25 locations and 100 charging ports over the next two years in Japan.
The premium EV charging network, developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging Japan, aims to enhance customer convenience by installing public stations primarily in major metropolitan areas, with each location typically offering four charging ports.
For Mercedes-Benz battery-electric vehicle (BEV) owners, the network will support the convenient Mercedes me Charge payment system. Meanwhile, EV owners from other brands will also be able to access services at the premium EV charging station via the PowerX App.
PowerX said that it plans to manufacture and deliver the ultrafast battery-powered EV chargers — called Hyperchargers — equipped with dispenser units, specially customized for this partnership. In addition, PowerX is also entrusted with the responsibility to oversee the entire process of charging station development, ranging from site selection to managing operations.
Through these efforts, PowerX aims to strongly support the build-out of EV charging infrastructure in Japan, advancing Mercedes-Benz’s electrification strategy.
